Karen covers about 6000 acres , Lying South West of Nairobi CBD, its named after Karen Blixen a Danish author who wrote the book Out Of Africa. currently an care piece of land ranges between Kshs 60m -!00m depending on the location and soil. The Karen and Langata District Association( KLDA)
All development i Karen must go through the association and County Government . KLDA is of the strongest residents associations In Kenya. its a controlled development area, and for along time matatus were not allowed within the estate especially Karen road. KLDA has fought to keep Karen purely residential area, restricting commercial development, multi dwelling residential houses like flats, residents are allowed to build on minimum half care or more.
Gated Community Developments for sale
Since 2005 Karen has gone through exponential growth, from single dwelling family homes to gated community homes that changed the face of the estate. additionally with increasing population, the small Karen shopping center has expanded , Ngong road has also been expanded to dual carriage to help improve traffic. these developments have of course been met by resistance by residents who feel some developers do not want to play by the rule.
the Gated community house have provided consumers with alternatives, part from improving security , through shared compounds, including the cost of maintenance plus other services. the rental prices as well as sale has dropped to give consumers a wide range of choices whether they are buying or renting.
the issue of controlled dvelopment has been a thorn in the flesh for developers and KLDA where land owners and the market is pushing to be allowed the flexibility to use their land anyhow, whereas KLDA has used legal means to stop them.
